Ambulante, 20 Years Adrift at Sea
program description
The task of assembling a retrospective anniversary program means confronting the impossibility of containing this sea of stories, aesthetic possibilities, and impacts that have reshaped the landscape over the past twenty years. Faced with a living, uncontainable archive, this selection celebrates the passion of our audience—those who keep the Ambulante ship afloat—and reminds us of the power of documentary cinema: a form that embraces the mutability of the world and the longing to touch solid ground.
about the curator
Ambulante is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and disseminating documentary film as a means of cultural and social transformation in Mexico and Central America. Founded in 2005 by Gael García Bernal, Diego Luna, and Elena Fortes, and currently directed by Itzel Martínez del Cañizo, Ambulante seeks to create collective spaces for encounter and action to build alternative worlds through documentary film.
Among its diverse tasks, Ambulante identifies and travels to locations with limited documentary film exhibition and training offerings, where it fosters cultural exchange, promotes participation and an informed critical attitude, and opens new avenues for reflection
