synopsis

In Alexandria, Ossama follows stories of old buildings being demolished and historical landmarks disappearing. He encounters different characters recounting their connections to certain places in the city that are on the verge of vanishing.

about the filmmaker

Ahmed Nabil is a documentary filmmaker, cinema tutor and film programmer whose work bridges creative storytelling with a passion for cinema education. He was born in Alexandria, Egypt, in 1984. With an interest in filmmaking and drawing, he joined the faculty of fine arts and got his BFA in painting in 2006 and studied filmmaking at the Jesuits film school in Alexandria between 2005 and 2007 in the Jesuits Cultural Center in Alexandria. His films often explore themes of identity, memory, and the human experience. His documentaries reflect his commitment to capturing authentic stories, with a focus on personal and collective histories. As a film programmer, he contributes to various film festivals and cultural institutions, highlighting World cinema and supporting films that spark dialogue around contemporary social issues as well as innovative filmmaking. His curatorial work continues to emphasize films that challenge conventional narratives and engage with pressing topics, further cementing his belief in cinema’s transformative power.
