synopsis

After his adoptive father returned to the Netherlands, the film director opened his diary and discovered personal stories that he didn’t know existed. Stories about love, armed conflict and colonialism are told through the eyes of a man named Soebertono Mote a.k.a Father Bert Hagendoorn.

(b. 1992). Co-founder and chief of Yoikatra, is a non-profit organization by artist collective based in Timika, Papua, Indonesia. He studied visual experimentation at Milisifilem Collective based in Jakarta, Indonesia. Some of his film includes Mayday! May Day! Mayday! (Le 1er mai ! Le jour de mai ! Le jour de mai !) (2022), Le Chemin du silence (2024), Muman Minggil (2023), and Tete, Nene, Permisi (2025) was screened worldwide. Tete, Nene, Permisi had its world premiere at Arkipel — Jakarta Experimental Film Festival 2025, Le Chemin du silence had its premiere at International Film Festival Rotterdam and Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival as well as won The Best Indonesian Feature Lenght Festival Film Dokumenter Yogyakarta. Mayday! May Day! Mayday! (Le 1er mai ! Le jour de mai ! Le jour de mai !) had its International Premiere at International Film Festival Rotterdam and became his feature film directorial debut and we can see his style which is very playful with the material, evoking smiles from satire, and using archives as a new offering in storytelling. Yonri also focuses on exploring film as a medium that connects one knowledge with another, such as ethno-astronomy, geomythology, and botanical theology.
